Brit Foreign Secretary calls for CLOSURE of US's TORTURE CAMP Guantanamo, Cuba....
The United States maintains its base on GUANTANAMO BAY, CUBA due to a very old treaty signed when Cuba was just recently released from Spain's control; Spain is estimated to have killed 500,000 or more Cubanos (Cuban-born natives, even those of Spanish descent) during its repression of the Cuban rebellion. Yet today, the United States THUMBS ITS NOSE at the GENEVA RIGHTS Conventions, among dozens of other international laws America, and Americans, SCORN.
As Bill Maher puts it, WE ARE NOW A NATION THAT LOVES TORTURE.
The REPUBLICAN DOMINATED MEDIA so loves the PROFITS from selling raunchy movies, TV shows, and videos of MURDER, SEX, and VIOLENCE, that they have indeed "DEFINED DEVIANCY downwards, to where it is much more a part of everyday American culture than even the knife fights of the 1800's era (19th Century) of frontiersmen, pioneers, western expansion, and cowboys and Indians. While those frontiersmen and bounty hunters who hunted Indians for a scalp-bounty represented only a small sliver of the overall American population, today almost 100% of the TV viewing population has seen murders and extreme violence on TV shows and in movies.
WHO will call out - consistently and repeatedly - the REPUBLICAN FRIENDLY major media corporations ("big media" or "corporate media" or "mainstream media"), such as the Walt Disney owned ABC company, which PURVEY ALL OF THIS VIOLENCE, DEGREDATION, MURDER, and TORTURE?
It is becoming increasingly hard to define America as a "judeo-christian nation" - when the vast preponderance of evidence is that we PREFER to EXPORT WAR and DESTRUCTION to peace and foreign aid (the American public DESPISES foreign aid, now that the end of the Cold War no longer makes it a necessary element to woo allies in the 'war against global communism'), and when we seem to WORSHIP MAMON, the god(s) of GOLD and ENTERTAINMENT (dancing around the golden calf for fun and eroticism), over all else.
(note: Even the most FUNDAMENTALIST Christian and Jewish cults (Koresh's Branch Davidians, Warren Jeffs' "FLDS prophet", Israeli 'settlements," for all of their condemning the wicked sexual ways of the evil world, TREAT WOMEN AS CHATTEL PROPERTY (sex slaves), up to and including raping young boys. Speaking of raping young boys, it is a persistent sex crime that WE KNOW is associated with the Catholic Church, and only within the past half-decade has the church taken what could be called strenuous efforts to reverse or minimize the practise of SHIELDING male priests from SEXUAL ABUSE of youth in their charge.)

"Saw 3" is coming out this month. And like "Saw" and "Saw 2," it's a movie about torture. Movies where people get tortured have been around for a long time, but they used to be made by Z-grade exploitation producers and they only ran at the drive-in. (They called them exploitation pictures because they exploited areas that mainstream Hollywood wouldn't touch.) Now we've got all these movies like Hostel and the Saw movies that are literally nothing but torture, and they're at the local Cineplex and advertised on prime-time TV.
Remember that term Moynihan coined, "DEFINING DEVIANCY down"? THESE MOVIES ARE MAINSTREAMING DEVIANCY. Deviancy now opens nationwide in 3,000 theaters. How can you expect a nation to abide by the Geneva Conventions when 80 percent of our teenagers spend their idle hours playing ultra-gory video games?
