Keith Olberman Redeems American media.... "these newest lies by President Bush".... "You [President Bush] will obviously SELL THE COUNTRY OUT..."
This video of Keith Olberman's "Special Comment on President Bush's Lies" is an amazing work of writing, composition, journalism, and elocution, and as a mark of where we, we Americans, are this year, this October of 2006.
Mr. Olberman's comments are indeed a chilling exposition as to where we Americans are today.
Literally, ever word deserves to be reviewed, examined, and analyzed for veracity and/or accuracy. Does it compare to Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg address?
Well, as Mr. Olberman so acutely lays out for us, Mr. Bush does indeed covet dictatorial, dark powers, powers that indeed make his critics and opponents cringe as to what he and his loyalists will do next.
And, in his own mind, Mr. Bush has ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM conflating (equating) his critics with TERRORISTS.
Even those from his own party.
For example, Ron Suskind co-wrote the book with Paul O'Neill, about O'Neill's brief term as the first Secretary of Treasury in the Bush administration. Mr. O'Neill it turns out was not only a business virtuoso who almost single-handedly turned around Alcoa Aluminum and earned a self-made fortune in the process.... but Mr. O'Neill did so by CHAMPIONING WORKER's RIGHTS and environmental concerns while doing so! This self-made business man, a stickler for propriety who disdained the freewheeling Washington lobbying scene, owed ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to George W. Bush. And Mr. O'Neill (and especially his wife) DID NOT WANT THE JOB of being the most prominent member in the new president's cabinet in January of 2001. (Treasury, apparently, predates all other cabinet offices, including State, Defense, and the AG.)
So what is the title of Mr. O'Neill's book?
ans.- "The PRICE OF LOYALTY."
AS IF Mr. O'Neill OWED ANYTHING, much less "loyalty," to George W. Bush and the thuggish Karl Rove-Dick Cheney White House!
O'Neill saw what was coming - the rank, rampant CORRUPTION, the IN-YOUR-FACE, "plantation-slaves-do-not-question-your-masters!" arrogance of Mr. Bush and his loyalists, and O'Neill promptly jumped ship. (Or, publicly stated what he knew would get him fired.) And even so, the CULT OF AMERICA's JOSEPH STALIN is SO STRONG, that O'Neill's book is titled something about "loyalty"!
We apologize for this diversion into the tale of Mr. O'Neill, but we think that it illuminates that not only has Mr. Bush put the cult of loyalty to himself AHEAD of the national interest AND in front of NATIONAL SECURITY, as any rational person might consider "national security" to be, but that indeed Mr. Bush HAS BEEN DOING SO SINCE HIS FIRST Secretary of the Treasury was fired for publicly condemning Mr. Bush's ruinous budget priorities and tax policies.
And THAT was LONG BEFORE Mr. Bush so completely harnessed "THE WAR ON TERROR" to his own personal agenda of misrule, corruption, folly, incompetence, and dictatorial condemnation of those in the American public who oppose him.
(The word "defy" springs to mind where we instead use "oppose" so quickly, that we, for now, restrain ourselves and insert the word "oppose" instead, as if we in America still enjoy a deliberative democracy and 'rights' as free American citizens.)

Selected Olberman "Gettysburg Address" quality quotes:
"Priceless truth in the unlikeliest of places."
"General Franks spoke of some of the worst thing that can happen to this country.... [that] The western world loses what it cherishes most... that potentially UNRAVELS THE FABRIC OF OUR CONSTITUTION..."
"AND HERE WE ARE, the FABRIC OF OUR CONSTITUTION BEING UNRAVELED, ANYWAYS." [even without a major new, dreadful terror attack following the 9-11 attacks.]
"A PRESIDENT STIFLING ALL CRITICS by every means possible, and when he runs out of those, by simply LYING about what they said or felt."
Secretary of State Rice first 'cannot remember' being informed by CIA Director George Tenet of an urgent meeting to discuss an almost certain Al Qaida attack being planned for America... yet Ms. Rice INSISTED that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Attorney General John Ashcroft receive the same briefing!
"Cheney lives on in defiance, and spreads darkness, like some contagion of fear."
"Mr. Rumsfeld insists that he relies on those generals in the field, but dozens of those generals now come forward to say, that they HAVE BEEN IGNORED."
"A PROJECTION OF THEIR OWN INCOMPETENCE in the months before 9-11...
"They are never wrong, and they never regret."
"Thus the SICKENING efforts to blame THE FOLEY SCANDAL on the negligence of others, or [on] the Clinton era...."
"Plus the terrifying attempt to hamstring the FUNDAMENT OF OUR FREEDOM, the Constitution, A TRIUMPH FOR Al QAIDA, one the terrorists could not hope to achieve on their own, with A HUNDRED 9-11s"
"And thus worst of all, perhaps, the NEWEST LIES by Mr. Bush about Democrats 'choosing to await another attack and not listen to the conversations of terrorists.'"
"IT IS THE TERROR and GUILT WITHIN YOUR OWN HEART, Mr. Bush, THAT YOU REDIRECT AT OTHERS, who simply wish for you to temper your certainty with counsel."
"It is the FAILURE and INCOMPETENCE WITHIN YOUR OWN MEMORY, Mr. Bush, that leads you to DEMONIZE those who might merely [suggest, quoting Oliver Cromwell] to think it possible that you might be mistaken."
"Mr. PRESIDENT, THESE NEW LIES go to the heart of what it is you truly wish to preserve
IT IS **NOT** OUR FREEDOM, NOR OUR COUNTRY.... your actions against the Constitution give irrefutable proof of that.
YOU WANT TO PRESERVE ONE POLITICAL PARTY's POWER.
And obviously, YOU WILL SELL THIS COUNTRY OUT TO DO IT.
These are LIES about the Democrats piled atop LIES about Iraq piled atop LIES about your preparations for Al Qaida."

Ed: And our last word, from today's same "Countdown" show, this later segment from when Mr. Olberman interviewed Mr. Marc Class, of the Poly Class foundation for child safety, about the threat to children and teenagers posed by Congressman Mark Foley and those who covered up his known predilection for teenage congressional pages.
Marc Class: "[The Foley scandal represents] A MASSIVE BETRAYAL OF A POSITION OF POWER... "
"The Republicans came VERY, VERY CLOSE to GETTING AWAY WITH THIS..." [by adjourning Congress].
