The Steven J. Baum P.C. law firm, which has offices in Amherst, N.Y., and Westbury, N.Y., has filed papers with government agencies notifying them that it plans to close. It made the filings under a federal law requiring employers to provide notice before mass layoffs.

“Disrupting the livelihoods of so many dedicated and hardworking people is extremely painful,
[but FORECLOSING on AMERICAN FAMILIES is FUN and REWARDING!!]
but the loss of so much business left us no choice but to file these notices,”said Mr. Baum in a statement issued on Monday.

Some of these firms’ aggressive, and, in some cases, duplicitous practices, have earned them the moniker “foreclosure mills.”

According to conspiracy theorists, all three U.S. presidents who opposed a privately owned central bank in America (bank cabals "earning" tens of billions of dollars charging interest to the U.S. government (taxpayers) for the fiat money they create out of thin air as debits in their ledgers) - Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, and John F. Kennedy - were the targets of assassins hired by the "money power" bankers.

   Whether these allegations of murder and assassination of U.S. presidents are true or not
(President Andrew Jackson survived a gunman shooting at him from point-blank range, only because the gunman's two attempted shots misfired - both primers failed, a miracle even in those days of poor ammunition. The New York Post has a salacious story about Alisha Smith, a lawyer with the New York attorney general’s office, who is a dominatrix in her private life. Frankly, many of the skills honed by being a domme probably come in handy in litigation (such as knowing exactly how much pain and humiliation to administer when).
The problem isn’t with her having a kinky private life per se; it is the allegation by the Post that she may have gotten paid for performing at S&M parties. Smith makes all of $78,825 a year and the policy of the state AG’s office is for staff to obtain prior approval of any activity which will earn them more than $1,000. The Post presented its allegations about Smith, who was hired by Andrew Cuomo and played an important role in a securities fraud case that led to a $5 billion settlement by Bank of America. She has been suspended without pay as the AG conducts an investigation.
After l’affaire Spitzer, readers in comments have repeatedly noted that Schneiderman had better be squeaky clean since he would be targeted by private investigators, as Spitzer clearly was. This Post “story” looks to have been the result of private investigators going after Schneiderman’s staff, with the intent of intimidating them and embarrassing and discrediting him. This report is even less specific than the one the Post filed on the maid who accused Dominique Strauss-Kahn of rape and clearly came from private investigators in the employ of DSK. And those sensationalistic charges, that she was a hooker, that the union had placed her in the hotel and had some sort of profit sharing arrangement, that she was turning tricks while under protective custody, all appear to have been fabrications (they initially sounded plausible because they were detailed, but the maid is suing the Post for defamation, and a source has indicated that there is no evidence that she was a prostitute).
The claim here is, as with DSK, from a single source, and a mere assertion:
Alisha Smith, 36, who dresses demurely as a buttoned-down prosecutor, turns up the heat when she becomes perky persecutor “Alisha Spark,” a nom de dom she uses when she performs at S&M events for pay, according to a fetish source.
“They pay her to go to the events. She dominates people, restrains them and whips them,” the fetish source said.
Now it may be true that she was paid, but performing at S&M events does not necessarily mean she IS paid (by happenstance, I know someone people who have been involved in this subculture, and being a very nosy consultant, I had to debrief them. Yes, there are S&M events/gatherings where the “act” performs for fun. Remember, some people are exhibitionists). The proof of the pudding will be whether she is reinstated.

The Post conveniently omits any reference in the story about where the reporters learned about this woman’s activities. Also, it is not at all a coincidence that she worked on Cuomo’s BofA settlement. It seems likely that Schneiderman had her working on his new securitization cases since she had experience.
The Post plays coy about where they got the information from, they cite an anonymous “friend” (probably the investigator himself) and they provide some key bits of Internet confirmation (Twitter, Facebook, etc) which may or may not have been hacked.
Oddly, I saw a similar “outing” of a dominatrix 2 years ago. Yet she was a complete sidelight to the true target of the investigators: her husband, who was active in politics and fighting some banks on foreclosure of several properties in the Hamptons. I had suspected then that the investigators were hired by the banks who then turned the information to the Post and the police, who busted the husband and the wife (for being a dominatrix? I’m not even sure why now other than humiliation).
I’m sure this story about this poor woman is just a warning shot to Schneiderman. It means they are working on him and he can expect to see more of these stories.
It’s hard to see how Schneiderman can protect his staff from this sort of search for dirt. And if Smith is vindicated, she can’t sue the Post and continue in her day job (the time demands and the exposure both argue against it). So if the claim that she is taking money proves to be scurrilous, the Post and its sources are unlikely to suffer for releasing this hit job.

The media has done a fantastic job painting over the enormous sinkhole of a problem that is commercial real estate (CRE). U.S. banks hold over $3 trillion in commercial real estate loans on properties that were once valued at over $6 trillion. Today those values are down to roughly $3 to $3.5 trillion depending on what metric you believe. How is it possible for a market that has lost $2.5 to $3 trillion to become largely hidden in the dark from the mainstream media? We constantly hear about $3 billion deficits or other issues but is the trillion dollar figure just so enormous that they don’t even bother investigating? It is probably more likely that the Federal Reserve has concealed massive failures in CRE by allowing banks to play a game of extend and pretend that continues today. The shadowy problems of empty shopping centers, vacant car dealership lots, and misplaced strip malls is largely a taxpayer problem now. Olbermann returned from one last commercial break on "Countdown" to tell viewers it was his last broadcast, and read a James Thurber short story in a three-minute exit statement. Simultaneously, MSNBC e-mailed a statement that "MSNBC and Keith Olbermann have ended their contract." The network thanked him and said, "we wish him well in his future endeavors."
...MSNBC spokesman Jeremy Gaines insisted Olbermann's exit had nothing to do with the acquisition of parent company NBC Universal by Comcast, which received regulatory approval last week. That deal marked the exit of NBC Universal chief Jeff Zucker, who saw Olbermann's value in turning around a once-unprofitable network, despite headaches the mercurial personality could sometimes cause his bosses.
"There were many occasions, particularly in the last 2½ years, where all that surrounded the show - but never the show itself - was just too much for me," Olbermann said in his exit statement. "But your support and loyalty and, if I may use the word, insistence, ultimately required that I keep going. My gratitude to you is boundless."

     What is ironic is that the VIRULENT hatred of those policies and programs scorned as "liberal" (or "progressive" or "Democratic")  only rise to the actionable level, by Right-Wing gunmen, during times of economic crisis (which is to say, high and pervasive unemployment) - they have been PROPAGANDIZED to believe that  High Unemployment ONLY occurs because of "liberal interference" in so called 'free markets.'

1. Gregory Lee Giusti threatened to firebomb Nancy Pelosi's house after passage of health care reform. A few weeks before Glenn Beck had played to burn Pelosi's in effigy.

As I deeply enjoy hearing the tortured explanations behind the stupid editorial decisions made by the Washington Post, I have to applaud Pam Spaulding for this catch. See, previously, the WaPo thought it would be a good idea to run an editorial from anti-gay bigot Tony Perkins on National Coming Out Day, decrying the gay-agenda-baking behind organizations like GLSEN's stance against gay teenagers being hounded to suicide by homophobes. Apparently, the effort to keep members of the LGBT community from killing themselves amounts to political "exploitation," which is obviously much more terrible than teenage suicide.
See, the Post is just diligently exploring both sides of the issue! You did know that there are two completely rational sides to the debate over teens committing suicide because of homophobic bullying, didn't you? On the one hand, Dan Savage wants such teenagers to know that "it gets better." But on the other hand, should it get better? Maybe it should get worse! Maybe more teenagers should kill themselves! The Washington Post hopes to figure this out, someday.

The Commerce Department is pushing back against census critics, subtly reminding conservative blogger and CNN contributor Erick Erickson that the workers whom he's threatened to pull a shotgun on are simply doing required, temporary and important work.
In a statement provided to the Huffington Post, Nicholas Kimball, a spokesman for the Commerce Department -- which oversees the 2010 census counting -- said that precautions are being made to "protect the safety of both census workers and the public."
Going through the logistics of the process, Kimball noted that the census workers dispatched to help collect raw data (in the form of a ten-point questionnaire) are usually fellow locals.

Erickson, a local Republican official from Macon, has used his platform as a prominent conservative blogger to criticize the census process. In a radio interview last week, he took his concerns to an outlandish plateau, calling the idea of a census worker coming to his home to collect data "crazy."
"What gives the Commerce Department the right to ask me how often I flush my toilet? Or about going to work?" he added. "I'm not filling out this form. I dare them to try and come throw me in jail. I dare them to. Pull out my wife's shotgun and see how that little ACS twerp likes being scared at the door. They're not going on my property. They can't do that. They don't have the legal right, and yet they're trying."
Those remarks followed a slew of other similarly incendiary comments made by conservative firebrands. Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-Minn) has been a particularly outraged voice, drawing a connection between the census and Japanese-American internment camps during World War II and insisting that she would only partially fill out her form.
That said, in recent days several GOP voices have come forward hoping to defuse the angst -- undoubtedly influenced by the possibility that the party could be badly hurt during redistricting if its members don't return their forms. Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) wrote a post for Erickson's blog entitled "Returning the Census is Our Constitutional Duty", arguing that "blatant misinformation" about the census from conservatives will "hand Nancy Pelosi more congressional seats."

THE Times reported Saturday that Acorn, once considered the nation’s largest community organizing group for the poor and powerless, is on the verge of filing for bankruptcy. [= MISSION ACCOMPLISHED for the foul Mr. Hoyt and his LYING smear-mongering bosses at the Times] It has already ceased operating in many states, including Maryland, where two conservative activists pretending to be a pimp and a prostitute   [THIS IS A LYING STATEMENT] used a hidden camera and recorded Acorn employees advising them on how to conceal the source of illegal income and manage 14-year-old Salvadoran prostitutes in the country illegally: “Train them to keep their mouth shut.”
The Times was slow last fall to cover that sting in Baltimore, similar ones at Acorn offices in Brooklyn, Washington and other cities, and the resulting uproar, including criminal investigations and votes in Congress to cut off funds for the group.

But the paper finally described how a succession of Acorn employees had advised the pair on obviously improper activities and how, as a result, many of the group’s allies had deserted it.

A month ago, while covering the arrest of James O'Keefe after his attempt to tamper with the phones at Senator Mary Landrieu's office, the New York Times repeated conservative misinformation that smeared ACORN, and is now refusing to retract their "reporting."
James O'Keefe previously had released videos that purported to show ACORN employees supposedly advising a "pimp" on how to evade the law. These videos were widely publicized in conservative outlets as part of a larger conservative campaign to destroy ACORN, because the organization registers poor people to vote. Usually-careful [NOT!] major media outlets like the New York Times then picked up the "story" from these conservative outlets and repeated the false accusations against ACORN.
An an example of how the Times has repeated the misinformation, this Times story, High Jinks to Handcuffs for Landrieu Provocateur, contained the following:
Mr. O'Keefe made his biggest national splash last year when he dressed up as a pimp and trained his secret camera on counselors with the liberal community group Acorn -- eliciting advice on financing a brothel on videos that would threaten to become Acorn's undoing.
In fact, O'Keefe was NOT "dressed as a pimp." He represented himself as a candidate for Congress who was trying to help women who were being exploited. He then doctored the resulting videotapes to make it appear that ACORN acted improperly. He only dressed as a "pimp" when publicizing his videos, using the racist stereotype to amplify his false claims. This preposterous 1970's blaxploitation-movie costume seemed to resonate with media outlets like the [NY] Times. In "Why Obama needs Rahmbo at the top," Milbank claims every misstep and failure attributed to Obama can be directly traced to Obama rejecting Rahm’s wise advice and instead following his own instincts or those of the cult fools that surround the President.

In the first dissected super-bowl ad, "Enjoy a Little Violence Toward Women With Your Super Bowl", University of Florida national champion and award winning college football star Tim Tebow (the one always wearing bible verse citations painted under his eyes during games) is shown tackling his mother in a high speed rush, in an ad hosted by "Focus on the Family" that allegedly trumpets Focus-on-Family's right-wing "moral values."
On the same page, BagNewsNotes catches another commercial, for a candy bar, of a rough neighborhood "pickup" football game, where a hungry young male player tackles Hollywood senior actress Betty White right into a mud puddle.

Over at another page, BagNewsNotes explains the none-too-subtle concepts behind corporate commercials portraying violence against women (our words): "CONSUMERISM and CONSUMPTION of corporate products" (even corporatized "moneychangers at the table" religious organizations) "makes all evils tolerable."
(Sort of like the bible verses where it is permissable to beat a slave within an inch of his or her life, as long as the slave survives for 72 hours (3 days) befor dying of his injuries?)

All the other crash survivors make a bee line for the alcohol cart to start a drunken orgy of conga-line partying.
Even as the woman manages to get the radio working and  dials it in on a rescue channel, one of the (drunken orgy) males switches the radio over to a station playing conga beat party music.
Actually, this commercial is a takeoff of an earlier CapitalOne credit card ad, where another party of stranded airline crash survivors get a TV and internet connection working, but one survivor reaches for a screen image of an oversized hamburger, knocking the TV screen over and wrecking the internet connection that could have saved the stranded survivors.

Whether selling candy, alcohol, credit cards, or "moral values" churches, there is NO level of stupidity & absurdity that the corporate media won't stoop to, in their efforts to DUMB-DOWN Americans and make them feel that life's highest calling is a drunken orgy of greed, consumer excess, and total lack of social responsibility.

Arianna Huffington is mad as hell and not going to take it anymore -- or doesn't think you should. The woman behind the Huffington Post recently exhorted Americans to yank their money out of big banks and open accounts at community banks instead. She called out the Big Four -- Bank of America, Citi, J.P. Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo -- by name for their "slap in the face to taxpayers." The crusade includes a link to a new Web site called Move Your Money (http://www.moveyourmoney.info), which includes clips from "It's a Wonderful Life" and a tool for finding a new bank courtesy of Institutional Risk Analytics.
This is a great example of populist indignation made practical (HuffPo says it does its banking with a smaller bank that specializes in start-ups). It's also a great example of why populist indignation shouldn't drive policy. We get the outrage: The banks did something bad, so let's spank the banks. But let's also do the math. Would it even be possible for the roughly 72 million American families with checking or savings accounts to appreciably diminish banks' holdings just by closing their accounts? .... [blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah]

In sum total, Ms. White's "advice" to American consumers is (our paraphrase)

This is doubtless a deliberate response by the corporate-controlled media to popular anger over the financial gains reaped by Wall Street executives, who have been bailed out at taxpayer expense while working people have been left to face depression levels of unemployment and mounting home foreclosures, hunger and poverty.
A brief article published on the inside pages of the business section of the January 1 New York Times (“With Bigger Bonuses, An Upside for Banks”) notes in passing that the three top Wall Street banks will pay out an estimated $49.5 billion in cash bonuses and stock awards.
Those banks—Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase and Morgan Stanley—received a combined $45 billion in cash under the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) passed by Congress in October of 2008. Along with the rest of the banks, they have benefitted from trillions of dollars in nearly interest-free loans, debt guarantees, securities purchases and other subsidies from the Treasury and the Federal Reserve Board.
The government has further underwritten bank profits and surging bonuses by keeping interest rates at near-zero and pumping trillions of dollars of cheap credit into the financial markets, while placing no restrictions on the ability of the banks to resume the speculative practices that precipitated the financial crash of 2008. Meanwhile, the American people have lost $11 trillion in wealth, primarily through the collapse of home values. For their part, the banks have sharply curtailed lending over the past 15 months, draining more than $3 trillion of credit from the economy

Here are a few excerpts from L.A. Times reporting on this:

“Senior U.S. officials are pushing to expand CIA drone strikes beyond Pakistan’s tribal region and into a major city in an attempt to pressure the Pakistani government to pursue Taliban leaders based in Quetta.”

Okay, so that’s the introduction. They sanitize the real purpose with key words: Taliban Leaders. They want the reader to take that as the purpose. Next is this:

“The proposal has opened a contentious new front in the clandestine war. The prospect of Predator aircraft strikes in Quetta, a sprawling city, signals a new U.S. resolve to decapitate the Taliban. But it also risks rupturing Washington’s relationship with Islamabad.”

As you can see, it is indirectly, but not very subtly, JUSTIFYING and CHEERING the drone attacks. Pay special attention to the following: ‘A new U.S. Resolve’- as in a strong, determined new administration, and ‘decapitate the Taliban’- as in wiping out the big bad evil shalvars-wearing curly-bearded cavemen who have been somehow declared, without technically being declared, as the terrorists and culprits in 9/11.
The side effect, the only tiny side effect, aka risk, cited is: oh, it may put a little dent in our relationship with Pakistan.

The PROPGANDA PIECE [published by the (Neo-Con WARMONGER] STENOGRAPHERS at LA Times first offers the mike [microphone] to the PROPONENTS of upping the killing machines:

“The concern has created tension among Obama administration officials over whether unmanned aircraft strikes in a city of 850,000 are a realistic option. Proponents, including some military leaders, argue that attacking the Taliban in Quetta — or at least threatening to do so — is critical to the success of the revised war strategy President Obama unveiled last week.”

As for the opponents, they only site the possibility of some dents on our relationship with Pakistan:
[our comment: This is the CLASSIC NAZI PROPAGANDA tactic: the REAL opponents of State Propaganda DO NOT EXIST, at least in the framework of "legitimate" or "proper" state channels of communication within the nation. ‘We are not a banana republic,’ said a senior Pakistani official involved in discussions of security issues with the Obama administration. If the United States follows through, the official said, ‘this might be the end of the road.’

And finally, the stenographers continue with this glowing report on this now widely popular war machine strategy, albeit stating a false and unproven success record:

“The CIA has carried out dozens of Predator strikes in Pakistan’s tribal belt over the last two years, relying extensively on information provided by informant networks run by Pakistan’s spy service, Inter-Services Intelligence.

“The campaign is CREDITED with killing at least 10 senior Al Qaeda operatives since the pace of the strikes was accelerated in August 2008, but has enraged many Pakistanis because of civilian casualties.”

The so-called report conveniently omits the number of civilian casualties, the ratio between the actual targets hit and the innocents murdered, the real cost, and the implications when it comes to probable violation of sections 4 and 5 of Article 51, which prohibits attacks that treat military and civilian objects as one and the same. Yep, as always, the establishment media provides zip, zilch, nada on all the important facts and issues that really matter. Next, please read this propaganda trash that is being marketed by not only the L.A. Times stenographers, but almost all the other establishment propaganda machines collectively referred to as the US Media.

The Fed has a large arsenal with which to attack a housing bubble, but the first weapon is simply talk. If Greenspan and Bernanke had used their platform at the Fed to educate Congress, the financial industry, and the public at large about the existence of the housing bubble and the risks it posed, this likely would have been sufficient to rein it....
This is not about mumbling "irrational exuberance." It's a question of using the Fed's full research capacities to document the existence of a housing bubble (they actually did the opposite) and then disseminating this research as widely as possible. If this proved inadequate, the Fed also had substantial regulatory powers to curb the deceptive subprime loans that helped inflate the bubble in its later stages
Bernanke and his sidekick, Greenspan, chose to take none of these measures. Instead they insisted everything was fine the whole time. Things were not fine and the country is paying the price. And yes, it is very much Bernanke's fault.
